Litter/Debris Control Alright, it's not a very glamorous job. In high school it was not one I discussed with the guidance counselor. Hey, I never pictured myself waking up at 5:00am to walk a dog and pick up other people's pop cans. What's great about it is the hidden assets that guidance counselors do not know about. The people you meet, the strange tales you become part of and the intrigue. (that is stretching it a bit) It is a great working environment with just the right amount camaraderie and personal space. Remarkably, this is amongst the hardest jobs to train employees for. Dust in a corner, cigarette butts, varying wind patterns and numerous other small details for each property have to be taught. Our lawn work involves one path following another, cleaning means creating your own path. Standards for lawn care are established and variables like mower height settings are determined for them. Standards for cleaning are subjective and different personalities handle the job differently. Cleaning has a way of culling employees. Those that can, Those that will and enjoy and those who are not employees. The successful employees are often university students that are not adverse to doing anything. Washing walls, painting trim, gardening and what ever else comes to mind. This advantage and the bonus that liability is low through the private and government insurers keeps the rates down.
